Smart Battery case stopped working

my phone is iPhone 6 and version is 9.3.5, when I try to connect to my smart battery case I keep getting a error message saying "this accessory is not supported by this device". I have restarted and tried to sync to my mac. Yesterday it worked fine. Please advise
